Pee-Pee on the Potty

I hate potty training. It’s one of the necessary evils that all parents must go through unless they plan on having a healthy teenager running around the house in diapers. But it’s no fun. Right now we are in the midst of potty training Kaden and we are having a blast. No…not really. While he is making progress, I have come to realize that potty training is more stressful for the parents than the child. The child has the luxury of deciding on whether they prefer to pee-pee (or poop) on the potty, or in the diaper, and whatever choice they make the parents are obligated to address it. We have watched videos, read internet sites, and talked to other parents in search of that magic potty-training technique that will make Kaden automatically switch over from wearing diapers to wearing underwear. But he is just not ready yet. Developmentally he is on track, but diapers don’t come cheap these days, so we are ready for him to move on up. So…I guess the problem might be with us. There is no amount of Elmo on the potty videos that you can play to make a child potty trained. I think that they are ready when they are ready. And right now, I am ready for my son to be ready. I just don’t know how many more times I can take watching Elmo and Daniel Tiger peeing on the potty.
